History of Yiwu
Yiwu is located too far from the sea to develop as a port, in addition, the city is located in an area almost unsuitable for agriculture, and there are no minerals here. Its development depended entirely on the internal and international trade. And proximity to Shanghai and Hangzhou added advantages in terms of logistics.
The growth of Yiwu trade began in the late 70s, when the first local businessmen began to expand their trade relations with more developed cities. It was this that became one of the main driving forces for the development of the market city, given the relatively poor support of the industrial sector.

The decentralization of state control over trade in certain areas led to the fact that in 1982 the Yiwu authorities launched China's first free market. Since then, its turnover has continued to grow relentlessly.
Today, Yiwu has grown from a simple wholesale market into a whole cluster, which is considered the national economy of the country, and its population is 1.2 million people. It has consistently won government awards for its rapid development and exemplary management. In 2005, Yiwu was named the world's largest light industry market in a joint report by the World Bank, the United Nations and Morgan Stanley.
Goods and buyers
Heavy industry and high-tech industries are located in areas around Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. In turn, Yiwu specializes in the production and trade of light industry goods. From key chains and toys to cosmetics and jewelry - more than 300 thousand different items of goods.

Developed production infrastructure, 30 years of international trade experience, technology and production efficiency, legal aspects, as well as cheap and convenient logistics - all this will keep China afloat for many years to come. However, this applies to heavy industry, mechanical engineering and high technology industries.
Light industry will eventually partially move to other countries.
