Pattern of a birdhouse made of cardboard. We make a simple birdhouse out of wood with our own hands

Many owners of their personal plots spend a lot of energy on the fight against harmful insects. In order to somehow make your life easier, you can attract starlings for these purposes. They mercilessly destroy not only caterpillars and beetles, but also their larvae. Thanks to such help, the summer cottage is completely cleared of these pests in a week. To attract such a useful bird, you need to make a house for it. For this, various improvised materials are used, for example, a plastic bottle, cardboard, box and others. Various options for birdhouses can be seen in the photo.

Necessary materials

The lightest and most affordable material is a plastic bottle. To make a birdhouse out of it with your own hands, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • drill, drills;
  • stationery knife;
  • pliers;
  • 2 l plastic bottle;
  • waterproof acrylic paints (dark brown, beige, light brown, black and dark green);
  • unnecessary CDs;
  • glue for plastic items;
  • wire;
  • brush or sponge for applying paint;
  • scissors;
  • tape, tape.

These materials can be easily found at home.

How to make a birdhouse from a plastic bottle?

It is necessary to take an ordinary plastic bottle with a volume of 2 liters. A sharp clerical knife makes a round hole at a distance of 3 cm from the bottom. A little below this hole, drill a small hole with a drill and insert a long dowel into it. This is the future perch for the bird. After that, the bottle is painted in two layers of brown paint. Starlings like their house to be cozy and dark, so the birdhouse from the bottle is painted over very well, without any gaps.

Then they take a bottle cap and drill two small holes in it, thread a wire through them and twist the ends well. The result should be a strong loop, with which the house attached to a tree or pole.

Thus, the birdhouse from the plastic bottle is ready. To make it more beautiful, you can decorate it.

How to decorate a birdhouse

To decorate a birdhouse, they take paper or thin flexible plastic and make a window stencil out of it, the image of which will fit perfectly into the birdhouse. Then you need to make a beautiful roof. To create a type of tile, a CD is heated and cut, and this is done in such a way that identical pieces are obtained. Each piece can be painted with brown paint, and for greater effect, the tiles are made multi-colored.

Now you need to attach a roof to the house. The lowest layer is "planted" on the glue, and for strength, each piece is fixed with adhesive tape. Then all subsequent layers are fixed only with glue.

To make a birdhouse from a plastic bottle more comfortable, the bottom is covered with various materials, such as:

  • rags;
  • twigs;
  • pieces of cotton;
  • hay.

You can be sure that the birds will appreciate such comfort.

Making birdhouses from other materials

Cardboard bird house

In addition to plastic bottles, a birdhouse can also be made from cardboard. For work you will need:

  • self-adhesive paper with a laminated coating;
  • starch;
  • corrugated board;
  • twine.

In addition, you will need tools such as scissors, a ruler, a pencil, a cardboard cutter, a square and compasses.

Work begins with the fact that on all blanks markup is done. Then the parts are cut in duplicate. A paste should be cooked from starch, since ordinary synthetic glue has an unpleasant odor that can scare away birds.

Finished parts are glued in pairs to make double walls. This is necessary for their strength. In the front wall, a hole should be cut for the notch, and in the back, 4 small holes are made for twine, with which the birdhouse is tied to a tree.

The walls are glued end-to-end with each other in compliance with a right angle. The result should be a box. During drying, it is wrapped with threads. The roof is glued in two parts. The smaller part is placed inside the structure, and on the larger one, allowances are made on all sides.

A cardboard birdhouse can last longer if it is glued on the outside with laminated paper. The surface is completely pasted over, the result is a very beautiful birdhouse.

bird house out of the box

If it is not possible to find basic materials, a birdhouse can be made from a finished item, such as a box.

In this case, you need an empty juice or milk container more than one litre. It should be washed and dried, and then a standard notch is cut out. To strengthen the bottom, use thick cardboard or wood. Holes are made on top of the box to be used for wire. With the help of it, a birdhouse is hung on a tree. Outside, the house is pasted over with beautiful paper with a protective coating.

Before you start making a birdhouse with your own hands, you should protect yourself from getting all kinds of injuries. In order not to plant a splinter, be sure to use gloves.

The roofs of the houses are made single or gable, with a slight slope back. Birds are afraid of bright colors, so the coating should be dark tones.

Birds like their nests to be very high off the ground. Before hanging a birdhouse on a tree, you should make sure that this place is safe, and trunks are thick and strong. It is best if the house is not conspicuous, because while hatching the chicks, extra attention to the birds is useless. The birdhouse can also be attached to tall metal poles.

Thus, by making a birdhouse with his own hands, a person not only benefits the birds, but also himself, since starlings are able to destroy a large number of harmful insects in their summer cottage. A house made from a plastic bottle, if made cozy, will give the birds real pleasure.

craft: Cardboard house

I suggest you take a look at my master class.

This master class is designed for children in grades 5-7 and creative people. All materials for manufacturing can be found in any home. The house is made of thick cardboard, pasted over with interlining and painted with yellow tint, decorated with flowers and grass, the roof of the house is pasted over with dermantine.

Target: teach the technology of making a house, develop a plot idea.

A beautiful house will serve as a decoration in your winter garden or garden plot. A little free time and only the desire to create will not prevent you from making such a craft.

To create such a wonderful cardboard craft "Bird House", we will need the following materials:

1. Thick cardboard

2. PVA glue

3. TITAN WILD glue

4. Scissors

5. Simple pencil

6. Velvet paper

7. Fluorescent paper

8. Color paste universal yellow

9. Water based paint

10. Tassel

12. Interlining

13. Dermantine

We make a template: a 15.5 cm x 29.5 cm rectangle for the roof and two 14 cm x 14 cm squares for the sides of the house.

We take the templates of the house, transfer it with a simple pencil to thick cardboard and cut out the details of the house.

Now we begin to assemble the house, glue all the details with TITAN WILD glue (you can use another glue, I had one).

From non-woven fabric, we cut out the details of the house according to the templates and begin to glue it with PVA glue. We start gluing from the sides in turn: first, the right side was smeared and the interlining was glued, the allowances were taken to the front and back sides of the house, we will also do the same with the left side of the house. We will do this work with the front and back sides of the house (details without allowances).

After the house has dried, cut out the window of the house. Now let's start painting the house. We dilute the color scheme with water-based paint and a little PVA glue and with the help of a sponge we begin to paint over our house.

The next step is the decorating step. We cut out flowers, grass, petals, butterflies from fluorescent paper according to patterns from velvet paper (you can use non-loose fabric).

Let's start at the front of the house. We glue curly grass, then petals with flowers, and finally - grass.

On the side of the house we glue the grass, flowers along the grass and a butterfly in the middle of the side of the house, the same work must be done with the other side of the house. On the back side - first glue the grass, and the flowers scattered and along the grass.

Then we proceed to the manufacture of the roof. Paste the roof detail with dermantine.

For the floor of the house from thick cardboard, cut out a rectangle 13.5 x 14 cm.

We glue two butterflies on the roof of the house.

Then we begin to glue the roof and floor of the house.

The house is ready! A great addition to your garden.

The second version of the house.

Tell me how to make a birdhouse out of wood? The son was given the task at school to bring a house for birds, and our dad is at work all the time, so we decided to do this with the child on our own and make two birdhouses: we will take one to school, and hang the second in our garden. Which boards are better to use and should we then paint our structure?

Birds are orderlies not only of the forest, but also of the garden. Every summer resident knows this, in which fruit trees and shrubs grow on the site. All year round, birds not only delight the ear with their singing, but also help gardeners in their hard work of protecting trees from pests, destroying small insects and feasting on their larvae. To attract birds, they hang feeders on trees and feed voluntary helpers in the cold winter season, when finding “prey” is not so easy, and they also arrange a home for them. A solid wooden house will appeal to any bird, in which she can not only live and hide from the weather, but also breed.

Nuances that are important to know before you get started

As it is already clear, the best birdhouse is made of natural materials, in the sense of wood. Some craftsmen make houses from cardboard boxes or plastic bottles, however, this is not at all the same. In the first case, the dwelling will be temporary and will last one season if it does not get wet earlier in the rain. Plastic containers are more suitable for manufacturing, besides, there is no question of their naturalness. It will scare away birds and the smell of chipboard or plywood, the latter is also too thin and the house will be cold.

For a bird house, it is worth using hardwood boards, but in no case coniferous - they contain resin that will stick to the plumage, which is fraught with the health of birds. The thickness of the boards should be at least 20 mm so that they retain the heat needed by the chicks.

Planing boards, achieving their perfect smoothness, is not necessary. A rough surface, especially inside the birdhouse and under the entrance, will help the birds get inside and move around without difficulty.

We make a birdhouse step by step

First of all, you should draw up drawings of the future home. This will facilitate the process of manufacturing blanks and make them even, so that in the future there are no gaps between the walls.

Birdhouses can be of different sizes and shapes - it all depends on which birds will live in it. Too spacious "apartments" do not need to be made, because the bird family is small and the young can freeze or grow weak. The standard dimensions of the house are approximately as follows:

  • bottom width - 15 cm;
  • birdhouse height - up to 30 cm;
  • roof - approximately 20x24 cm;
  • the diameter of the protrusion (notch) - no more than 5 cm.

It is better that the back wall is a couple of centimeters lower than the front panel - such a slope is necessary for water to drain. Accordingly, then on the side walls the upper cut will go obliquely. The roof should protrude a little, so its dimensions are somewhat larger than the bottom.

Now you can get to work:

  1. Transfer the drawing with a pencil to the boards.
  2. Cut out all the details.
  3. Trim the outer surface of the blanks.
  4. In the front panel, cut out the “entrance” in the form of a circle.
  5. Assemble the birdhouse in the following order: facade, side walls, bottom, back wall, roof, notch. All parts must fit snugly together. It is better to fix them on self-tapping screws or nails.

It remains to attach a fastener in the form of a bar on the back wall to the birdhouse and install it on a tree, wrapping it well with wire. Do not paint - the smell of paint will scare away the birds.

At the moment, there are few hollow trees in big cities, and it is difficult for the birds to find a home for themselves. Let's help them and make a birdhouse with our own hands. Thus, we will save the birds from the cold. In this article we will look at: how to make a birdhouse with your own hands?

  1. Use linen gloves to keep the splinter out.
  2. Wear safety goggles to keep sawdust out of your eyes.
  3. The working tool (knife, saw) must be sharp. Remember that a blunt tool will easily hurt, it is poorly fixed in the tree and tends to slip off.
  4. Check power tools for proper operation.
  5. Use the ladder when hanging the finished birdhouse.
  6. If you want to paint the birdhouse, use an unscented, water-based paint in non-bright colors. Try to keep the birdhouse invisible to predators.

The best material for making a birdhouse is natural hardwood, for example: oak, aspen, linden, birch. Also suitable for a birdhouse are fiberboard (fibreboard), chipboard (chipboard), and plywood. You can use thick cardboard, but such a birdhouse will last only a couple of months. Do not use coniferous wood, as it releases a sticky resin and adversely affects the health of birds.

You will need: untreated hardwood boards, nails 4 cm long, impregnation or non-toxic, odorless water-based paint (optional), hacksaw or electric jigsaw, tape measure, hammer, pencil, drill with a 5 cm cutter, brush.

Birdhouse drawings

We present to your attention the options for drawings of future birdhouses. During the assembly of the birdhouse, do not neglect the safety rules described above.

Drawing No. 1 Birdhouse with a slope to the back wall

Drawing No. 2 Birdhouse with a pitched roof

Drawing No. 3 Birdhouse with a gable roof

  1. Connect the front wall to the side walls, drive nails along the edges and center of the board. (It should be a U-shaped design).
  2. Assemble the back wall and bottom of the structure in the same way.
  3. Nail a wooden bead to the bottom to round the inside corners.
  4. Do not forget to fix all the elements of the future birdhouse with nails.
  5. Make a removable birdhouse roof to further clean the birdhouse. It should consist of two parts of the main part and the sleeve.
  6. The roof of the birdhouse should protrude beyond the dimensions of the birdhouse itself from the side of the facade, so that precipitation does not get inside the birdhouse.
  7. Install a plank or perch in front of the entrance to the house.

  1. Choose a place to install a birdhouse, it can be a tree, a pole, or the roof of a house.
  2. The height of the birdhouse must be at least 3 meters.
  3. While fixing the birdhouse, tilt it forward so that moisture does not get inside.
  4. It is better to attach a birdhouse to a living tree with a wire or rope.
  5. The birdhouse can be attached to other surfaces using nails and a hammer.
  6. The birdhouse should be in the shade so that direct sunlight does not fall on it, and the bird house does not heat up.
  7. The entrance hole should be directed in the opposite direction from the wind.
  8. Do not install birdhouses nearby - starlings do not like neighbors.

In the spring, birds arrive from warm countries every year. It can be difficult for them to find a home: old birdhouses are often destroyed, and trees are cut down.

Birds help nature and people. They fight insect pests and their larvae, protect trees. In addition, they delight people with singing, give joy. Our job is to take care of them. The simplest thing we can do for them is to build birdhouses.

Birdhouses serve not only as a home for different types of birds, but also as an element of decor in the garden and park landscape. You can find birdhouses from a variety of materials and bizarre shapes.

What materials are birdhouses made of:

  • The most famous and reliable material is wood.
  • Plastic.
  • Cardboard.
  • Metal.
  • Plywood.

Important: The right house for birds is one that is made of wood. Other materials are not suitable for providing a comfortable stay for birds. Birdhouses made of chipboard, cardboard, plastic serve for decorative purposes and are located in places where rain does not penetrate.

The right birdhouse: what is it?

Sizes of birdhouses and hole diameter for wagtail, titmouse, different birds: table

Wood is the only natural material that can provide birds with protection from the cold and rain. Let's not forget that birds are part of nature, and they are not adapted to life in an artificial environment.

What characteristics should a tree have?

  1. The most suitable types of wood for birdhouses are birch, oak.
  2. Pine species are not suitable for these purposes, because they emit resin.
  3. The thickness of the boards should be at least 2 cm to keep warm.
  4. The inside of the birdhouse must be rough so that it is convenient for the birds (especially the chicks) to get out of the house.
  5. Boards can not be fastened with glue, it can release harmful substances.
  6. Nails or screws should not stick out of the boards, as birds can get hurt.

Let's talk separately about the size of birdhouses. Birds have different sizes, which means that houses for different species must be suitable in size.

Table 1 "Dimensions of birdhouses for different birds"

bird species Notch diameter (cm) Bottom Width (cm) Front wall height (cm) Back wall height (cm)
titmouse 3-3,5 10-12 (square) 22-25 28-30
Wagtails 5 40*15 (rectangle) 15 18
pikas 6 16-18 (square) 22-26 28-32
Flycatchers 4 10 (square) 7 14

Features of bird houses:

  1. Wagtails will choose a house in the form of a rectangle with a threshold in front of the entrance, because this bird loves to trample in front of the entrance to the house.
  2. Pikas settle in birdhouses with two entrances. This helps them escape if cats attack.
  3. The flycatcher loves to settle in a half-hollow - a house that looks like a natural hollow in a tree.

How to make a birdhouse for starlings with your own hands from wood: drawing with dimensions, step by step instructions, photo

Birdhouse size for starlings:

  • Bottom width - 15 cm;
  • Height - 30-40 cm;
  • Notch diameter - 4-5 cm;
  • Round perch in front of the entrance 5-6 cm long.

Important: On the roof there must be a small canopy (edge) above the entrance. Then rain water cannot get inside.

In the manufacture of birdhouses, it is necessary to adhere to the recommendations for sizes. Otherwise, the birds may simply not settle in the house. From birdhouses with a large entrance hole, starlings can drive out small birds. If you make the entrance diameter too small, the starling may not fit into the hole. The correct interior space of the birdhouse helps to create favorable conditions for hatching healthy offspring, to create a warm nest. Usually starlings hatch 5 chicks, rarely the number reaches 7.

To make a birdhouse, you will need the following materials:

  1. dry boards;
  2. Nails or screws;
  3. Wire (to hang a birdhouse);
  4. A hammer;
  5. Hacksaw;
  6. Drill (d=50, d=4 mm);
  7. Pencil;
  8. Square;
  9. Screwdriver, screwdriver.

How to protect a birdhouse from cats, squirrels, magpies: tips

  • Experienced people advise placing birdhouses away from trees, on poles.
  • The birdhouse should be located at a height of 4.5 m.
  • A tin collar attached to a pole can serve as protection against cats.
  • Also on the pole, you can make a barrier in the form of a roller of barbed wire.
  • The design of the birdhouse should be correct: a long canopy will not allow a magpie, squirrel or cat to stick its head into the notch.
  • The perch in front of the notch should not be made too long, otherwise the predator will easily settle on it.
  • The diameter of the notch should be no more than 5 cm, it should be located almost at the roof. A large canopy will thus protect the penetration of a predator into the house.

How to protect the birdhouse from moisture, how to cover it: tips

There are several ways to protect the birdhouse from moisture:

  1. Make a roof with a slope, then drops of water will roll down.
  2. You can paint the birdhouse with paint or open it with varnish.
  3. Treat the birdhouse with linseed oil.
  4. The tree also needs to be treated with water-repellent agents, because over time, fungal stains can form on it.

Is it possible and how, in what color to paint a birdhouse with gouache, what to draw on it?

If you want birds to live in your birdhouse, do not paint or decorate it with colorful decorations. Beauty is not important to feathered friends, protection comes first for them. A bright birdhouse will attract cats.

The decorative birdhouse serves, first of all, for beauty. Therefore, when creating it, it is appropriate to use both all kinds of decorations and paint.

For coloring, you can use acrylic paints, gouache, oil paints based on drying oil. Gouache is very easy to use as it dries quickly.

In order for gouache paint to lie flat on the surface, you need to follow a certain sequence:

  1. First, sand the surface to be painted with sandpaper.
  2. Then apply the base - white acrylic paint. Wait until completely dry.
  3. The next stage is drawing a sketch of the drawing and painting with gouache.
  4. Wait for the gouache to dry completely, and then open the pattern with varnish.
  5. Lacquer is desirable to apply a couple of times.

If you do not know how to draw, you can use stencils. Simply transfer the pre-prepared templates to the birdhouse with a pencil, and then paint with a brush.

What can you draw on a birdhouse? Everything that fantasy tells you - birds, flowers, patterns, butterflies, grass and trees, abstract patterns. There is no limit to perfection. You can see examples of drawings on birdhouses in the photo below.
