An interview with the editor-in-chief and publisher of Glamor - about the anniversary of the magazine, politics in gloss and the fate of the press in the era of media scandals. Maria Fedorova, editor-in-chief of Glamor Editor-in-chief of Glamor magazine Maria Fedorova

The day before our interview Veronica Fedorova celebrated its twentieth anniversary in Simacheve" and danced equally joyfully with the guys from " Pleshki"(where he studies at the "International School of Business and World Economy" since the Faculty of International Marketing in Moscow State Linguistic University e closed), and with Vlad Lisovets(44), who just a couple of days ago dyed Fedorova platinum blonde. She has known him and all the other Moscow socialites from an early age - editor-in-chief of the magazine Glamor(then a stylist) Masha Fedorova(43) took my daughter to shoot for the first time when she was about 10 years old. And away we go...

Shirt, Jil Sander (Petrovsky Passage shopping center); coat, Masterpeace (multi-brand KURSOVOY); Jeans, clutch, boots, heroine's property

The point is not that Masha wanted to open the world of gloss to her daughter as soon as possible, but that there was no one to leave the girl with at home . When Veronica was in third grade, her father left the family. Few people know about this (and if they know, they don’t talk): “I think we can talk about it now. Actually, my parents were never married and lived in a civil marriage. They were namesakes, I didn’t even have to choose a last name (laughs). It was hard for mom. Working as a stylist is not as easy as many people think. I need to pack at least 4 huge suitcases with clothes, dozens of pairs of shoes, and generally figure it all out, but my mother always tried to give me the best.”

T-shirt, BBB Knights, property of the heroine; skirt, Jil Sander (Petrovsky Passage shopping center); park, ALEXANDER TEREXOV; ring, Tiffany & Co, property of the heroine

It must be said that Veronica is not a spoiled daughter, but a well-mannered 20-year-old girl who earns her own living. She chose the path that she calls “Don’t sit on your mother’s neck” and at the age of 19 she got a job in the digital department of one of the most famous PR agencies in Moscow. RSVP

special projects manager. She is not going to follow in her mother’s footsteps, but plans to open her own establishments: “I want to be a business manager. and did two shoots for Glamor: c Lena Temnikova(31) (this is no longer a secret) and with one model. There are some things I still don't understand. Yes, I want to rip some things off the rail and put them on immediately, but some things are not about me at all. But mom knows how to mix things up in such a way that no other stylist in life would have thought of doing the same, and then it becomes a trend and stars start wearing it.”

Veronica can’t go anywhere without her mother—the Fedorovs can’t spend more than two weeks apart. Now Veronica is already thinking about a second higher education – also in management, and from two options: Germany And Peter, leans towards the second - closer to mom. “My mother and I are incredibly close, and it will be much easier to travel to her from St. Petersburg than from Germany.”

But it’s still unclear how the Fedorovs will divide the family wardrobe. Veronica often wears her mother's vintage shoes Prada, as well as dresses, bags, outerwear and much more. Masha doesn't protest. The only thing he doesn't like to share is black T-shirts.“And today she went to work wearing a T-shirt with the band’s logo AC/DC, and I thought: “I have to take it from her somehow!” Fedorova laughs.

Slip dress, Marks & Spencer, heroine's property; park, ALEXANDER TEREXOV; sandals, Furla

In Veronica's closet there are also a lot of things, as they say, with history. For example, a T-shirt with the words BBN Knights(about 6 years ago she bought it in Boston when she went there on an exchange), sweatshirt 5 preview from Podium Market with a huge black hood (even the brand itself appreciated how cool it fits on Veronica and “liked” all her photos on Instagram) and a velvet slip - “You won’t believe it,” Marks & Spencer».

And yet, the most iconic thing in her wardrobe is lilac dress Alexander Terekhov , in which Veronica made her debut in 2015 at the ball Tatler, and a whole story happened to him too. “Initially it was supposed to be blue, because Sasha saw me in this color. We waited a very long time for the fabric from Italy, and when it arrived, we realized that it had been dyed lilac. But we instantly fell in love with the color, and in the end Terekhov made a beautiful dress for me.” By the way, in early March, Fedorova was scrolling through Instagram and accidentally came across a photo of an opera singer Khibli Gerzmava(47), who performed in exactly the same - and also from Terekhov - “Then I was overcome with pride,” Veronica laughs.

Do you think those who are directly involved in fashion should show impeccable taste and style? Or, as a last resort, demonstrate a complete collection of the trends of the current season, as Anna Dello Russo does?

The editor-in-chief of the national magazine about the latest in the fashion and beauty industry, Glamor, Maria Fedorova, while still working at Playboy magazine, realized that fashion was her theme. Starting as an assistant to the editor-in-chief, she rose to the position of fashion editor of a popular men's publication. Then Maria worked for several years as an editor, and later as director of the fashion department at GQ magazine. Since the founding of Glamor, Maria Fedrova has been the director of the fashion department of this magazine.

Among the critics and editors-in-chief of the fashion departments of various publications, there are often amazing personalities who, in the opinion of ordinary people, do not at all give the impression of people who are in any way involved in the fashion industry. Hilary Alexander, Suzy Menkes and other equally recognized ladies, like magicians beyond categories, do not bother to look trendy and stylish. Maria Fedorova, it seems, is their number.

Style and shops

I rarely go shopping in Moscow. It's expensive here. Yes, I have discounts in some decent stores, but with these discounts I only make up the difference in price. It’s not very pleasant for me to catch myself thinking this way. But this is like a habit from Soviet times: historically, all the most favorite purchases were related to trips abroad. Traveling without shops is like going to the sea, but spending your entire vacation swimming in the pool. And I really want to buy something that half of Moscow doesn’t have. I am very glad that Topshop came to Russia. But how wonderful it was when we didn’t have them: only the lucky ones who visited London could look cool for little money! My first visit to the brand's London store was a revelation for me, but now several brands have appeared that have not yet reached Moscow. In Milan or Paris you can snag a couple of inexpensive but stylish things. However, I bought my last pair of shoes at Podium Market. Some kind of Brazilian sandals, very cheap, but cute. They just remained in size forty-one. I can proudly say that recently a lot of things from Russian brands have appeared in my closet. Not only Moscow ones. Since the beginning of spring, I have been constantly wearing clothes from a St. Petersburg atelier, and even on the streets girls stop me and ask where this skirt or this raincoat is from. I love Terekhov and Walk Of Shame. I wear things from the Ruban sisters - Alisa worked as a stylist for us at Glamor many years ago, she still calls me “Mama Masha.” She and her sister grew professionally before my eyes.

Me too tried to wear
only black
, but I got very bored. me all the time is drawn to experiments

Obviously, I have more problems finding clothes than girls with a standard figure. Accordingly, I choose stores that have loose-fitting items. For example, H&M has a line for plus-size people - not everything suits me there, but sometimes I buy basic clothes there - khaki trousers and sweatshirts. I have several denim shirts from there. I go to Marina Rinaldi in Petrovsky or Smolensky Passage, but I don’t always leave with a purchase. When I’m in Milan, I always go to three stores: the same Marina Rinaldi, Persona - this is the second line of Marina Rinaldi - and Prada to look for shoes. After the Chanel show in Paris, I definitely go to Chanel on Rue Cambon, this is already a tradition. And I go to Le Bon Marche, including for my favorite Opalis shampoos.

Cool T-shirts are available not only at Dolce & Gabbana, but also at H&M, Mango and River Island. The thing itself is not always worth the money they ask for it. Basically we pay for the brand. It’s nice to wear beautiful things and expensive accessories, but don’t make a cult out of it. I graduated from Stroganov, and I really liked the Chanel spring-summer 2014 collection on the theme of artists and art. And there were wildly beautiful things there. But I can’t afford a canvas backpack for three thousand dollars now. Following the example of our “Do It Yourself” section, I made a similar one myself. In general, there are many things made “on the theme” of trends from famous designers. And that's great.

I carefully studied the appearances and style of Alena Doletskaya, and I wanted to dress like her: simple trousers, straight skirts, laconic blouses that look chic on her. Or like Grace Coddington - she wears black all the time, but she has this red hair, she looks cool. I also tried to wear only black, but I got very bored. I'm always drawn to experiments. I either dress in the rock style, or, as I do now, in the style of Audrey and Grace: I bought dresses in the style of the 50s in America, I wear So Number One floral skirts and Alexander Arutyunov fly prints.

Nike Air Max sneakers

I have a whole collection of them. I bought these in Paris at & Other Stories, which made my daughter jealous. She demanded the same ones, but they couldn’t find them in Moscow, so I had to buy her slightly different ones.

Asos dress

I ordered it recently. This is a very simple slip dress: the neckline is trimmed with lace and the hem is mesh, which makes it quite versatile. If worn with a sweater, the dress looks like a skirt, but with a coat it becomes almost an evening outfit.

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN SHOES

I always have to dress with the expectation that I might end up at some event in the evening, so I take a change of clothes with me. I carry it right in my hands - our office is located in the center, I often walk from it to the desired location. I bought this pair in New York at Barneys. There is always my size. The shoes have a very nice heel and go with everything. But I still try to take care of them: wearing heels in the center of Moscow is more expensive for myself. Literally and figuratively.

Sweater Sonia Rykiel

One of the few things I bought in Moscow. We went to the store to use the certificate given to our daughter for her birthday, that is, we bought clothes for her. And suddenly I saw this sweater. There were only two large items, a sweater being one of them.

Swarovski glasses

I really liked them because the shine of the crystals looks quite noble and the retro shape of the frame is very successful. I usually wear Ray-Ban and don't experiment much, but these have caught on. They are the most gorgeous looking in my collection.

Necklace of unknown brand

It’s super simple, costs a penny, and was bought during a trip to Vietnam.

Orloff ring

It was made by Pyotr Aksyonov, a Russian jeweler and my friend. But I don’t have it because Peter and I are friends. I really liked the ring in the catalogue. I said that I wanted this, and he offered me a choice of two rings with different stones. I chose this, but Petya later made me a second one, with a green stone. I usually wear them together.

Chanel watches

This was my first serious watch purchase, which I made in the year when Chanel stopped being sold on Kutuzovsky Prospekt as part of the Moscow Trade House. The J12 model is the most basic: a ceramic case without diamonds on a plastic strap. I wear them all the time and can’t imagine what could replace them.

Silver ring in the shape of bamboo
unknown brand

Then I was still working at Yes! magazine, shooting the first cover. I bought it in Egypt for ten dollars.

RING WITH PEAR-SHAPED CRYSTAL
UNKNOWN BRAND

Everyone thinks it's a diamond, but it's not. At a dinner with representatives of the Aquilano.Rimondi company, we discussed for a long time what clarity diamonds should be, and as an example they told me: “Here, you have a beautiful stone.” I replied that yes, it’s wonderful, only it costs six hundred rubles. I bought it in St. Petersburg at a flea market in New Holland when I went to Aurora Fashion Week.

Sportmax bag

I immediately fell for it: it's the perfect size, and it has a beautiful combination of black and powder pink. Oddly enough, it goes with a lot and has a convenient long chain.

Earring Christian Dior

You have to sign up for them. There was only one pair in a Parisian store, which I bought in half with a friend. I bought simple pearl carnations to go with them at the Evropeisky shopping center for two hundred and eighty rubles.

About the city

Moscow is my hometown. Is it possible to say why you love a person? Or parents? I have the same attitude towards the city. Only in your loved one you are always trying to fix something. You don’t expect changes from the city to suit you. You adjust yourself, but if you do everything right, you will be praised and rewarded. I don’t know if I would live here if it weren’t for work or not. If only because work has been a big part of my life since I was 23 years old, when I joined my first magazine. I had a period after college when I thought about moving, but I got carried away with the stylization of filming, then I gave birth to a child - quite early by today's standards - and the question of moving disappeared by itself. When we did on-site shooting and got a good result, American or, for example, French photographers often told me: “Oh, it’s so great to work with you, you do everything absolutely on the level, come to us.” I was pleased that they perceived me not as a curiosity bear from the Moscow streets, but as an equal professional. But I was already a mother, and when my daughter turned seven, I was left alone with her. And I decided that it would be better for me to be one of five (now I don’t even know how many) respected stylists in Moscow and, accordingly, Russia, than one thousand one hundred and twenty-second stylist in New York.

Where else will they come from? people abroad, if not from Moscow?

When I was sixteen, I traveled abroad for the first time - I flew to London to visit friends of my parents. They asked me which Russian city I came from. And I looked at them with such round eyes, because I was struck by this question: where else will people come from abroad, if not from Moscow? It's not because I'm a snob. I just had such a natural childish reaction. But when I analyzed all the people who moved to London, Paris and so on, I realized that almost all of them are not Muscovites. I have an old friend, and in one argument he told me: “Fedorova, you Muscovites are spoiled. There was always a cutlet on the stove waiting for you at home, a warm bed, and you didn’t have to deal with anything.” I was terribly upset then. And then I caught myself thinking that this is so. People from other cities are getting involved so eagerly that they are pushing us out. And I believe that this is a certain engine. Both for them and for us.

We filmed on Bolshaya Dmitrovka because my office is located here, where I spend a lot of time. My mother worked as a lawyer in the USSR State Planning Committee, where the State Duma is now. I lived in Belyaev for twenty-two years, but on Fridays a bus departed from the State Planning Committee building to the rest house, and for me it was an event to come to Okhotny Ryad, get on this bus and drive through the center of Moscow. We then drove past Belyaev, but it never even occurred to me to arrange for them to pick me up somewhere near the house. And now I come to this same place in the center every day to work. Here is my favorite bar “Simachev”, where, in my opinion, the atmosphere is very correct. I still go there, despite my advanced age. Now, of course, I organize business meetings there more often. I also love Kutuzovsky, where I live, but I miss the human touch there. There's a track there. In my area there is nowhere to even eat with a child without pathos. I love Uilliam's, "Coffeemania" in the conservatory building - yes, it's not cheap, but it's very tasty and pleasant. I have to buy a little food at the expensive "Azbuka Vkusa" because it's the only store nearby. And I'm very happy , that now there are many small healthy nutrition and detox companies with delivery. I often order myself a weekly diet menu or a detox program for two or three days from Organic Religion.

Now the filming and publishing business in Moscow is organized no worse than in the West. Sometimes it's even better. It happens, of course, that you arrive somewhere and think: “How great everything is set up here.” In New York, for example, there is a messenger delivery system: if you left for a shoot and forgot something in the office, you can call a man on a motorcycle who will cross the city in twenty minutes and bring everything to you. Can you imagine such a service in Moscow? Lately, I have been visiting other Russian cities more often and am becoming more and more convinced that we in Moscow are crazy. Here, roughly the same thing is happening as in Tokyo and Seoul, only the picture is more down-to-earth. Here you are constantly trying to do as much as possible, running somewhere. It keeps you on your toes. Again, in America you know for sure that you will finish work at six. Something out of the ordinary must happen for filming to be delayed by an hour. There are no such orchestras of people as there are here, there is no spirit of adventurism. When I started working, I was a stylist, a makeup artist, and a hairdresser - I had to. It seems to me that this makes specialists from Russia much more versatile.

“Smart people don’t read glossy magazines, they publish them,” - this is exactly the phrase that was heard in the film in 2007 Andrei Konchalovsky "Gloss". But now, in 2014, “glamor in Russian” makes itself known less and less often, and the “smart people” who publish gloss continue to publish it, but for people no less smart. And in the Russian fashion industry since September 1998 (launch date Vogue Russia) to this day the ball is ruled by a woman whose name has become a household name. Former editor-in-chief of Russian Vogue, currently heading Interview Russia, Alena Doletskaya celebrates his birthday today. website congratulates the ideologist of “our” version of the most authoritative fashion publication and remembers the 7 chief editors of Russian gloss who you need to know by sight.

Alena Doletskaya

Victoria Davydova

Vika Davydova started her career in a magazine Vogue together with Doletskaya. A year after the launch of the publication, Davydova was ranked in the domestic Vogue the position of beauty editor and became one of those valuable personnel, without which, in fact, Doletskaya would not have been able to turn Russian Vogue into an authoritative fashion publication.

5 years later in 2004, Victoria was offered the position of editor-in-chief Glamor, which she readily accepted. Just like Doletskaya, she made the launch of the Russian version of the fashion magazine a triumphant event. It took Davydova only six months for the magazine to reach a record circulation of 800 thousand copies at that time and become the best-selling glossy magazine in Russia. In September 2008, Vika headed Tatler, while remaining a consulting editor for Glamor. But already in July 2010, Davydova returned to where she began her fashion career - to the publication Vogue. This time as editor-in-chief.

« Victoria Davydova- a brilliant professional, capable of making any magazine. She is amazingly efficient, has clear systems thinking, dedication and the ability to achieve maximum results from her team,- the now former president spoke about replacing Doletskaya in the person of Davydova Conde Nast Russia Karina Dobrotvorskaya. -She perfectly understands the reader for whom she works, masters all the laws of glossy journalism, and instantly grasps fashion and journalistic trends. I have no doubt that Victoria will do wonderful Vogue- fresh, modern, bright, edgy and elegant."

Davydova turned around Vogue towards the Russian market, changing the appearance and content of the publication. She paid more attention to the interests of Russian readers and began to focus less on the West.

"I would take InStyle to the category of lifestyle magazines rather than purely fashion publications, since we are not so much about fashion as about things that, yes, can be very good in themselves and be in fashion, but which you need to be able to choose correctly - depending on the type figure, age, mood, time of day and year,- Guaruskaite talked about her brainchild even before the release of the first issue of the magazine. - InStyle does not publish review articles about certain fashion trends or long interviews with designers. Other magazines do this very well. We are talking about what and how to wear this season, how to wear makeup, what hairstyles to do, how to receive guests, what places to go, where to go on vacation. In a word, a fascinating guide to how to make your life more colorful, elegant and convenient. Wherein InStyle does not lecture, but, by showing a sea of examples, helps to make a choice. A very correct and win-win approach to the audience from a commercial point of view.”

InStyle organizes various events every year. For example, a party Beauty Bar, where leading beauty brands present new cosmetic products and procedures to guests, conduct lectures and master classes, and an event Celebrity Suite, where are the magazine stylists InStyle preparing actresses for the red carpet MIFF, fashion show The Show. At all events of the magazine, as well as at other important parties, the head of the magazine always appears Jurate Gurauskaite.
