I was recently looking through a family album and came across a photo that caught my attention. It was old, yellowed, and one corner was broken off. It depicts an elderly man. I asked my relatives, who is he? And here's the answer I got.

This is my great-grandfather. The photo is old, because he was born in 1911, his name was Sergey Andreevich Verbitsky. He was a participant in the Great Patriotic War.

Great-great-grandfather told his grandchildren (now my mother, aunt, uncles) a lot about the cruelty of the war. The Germans were merciless, they killed women and children, starved everyone. Nobody spared! Grandfather Sergei believed that he managed to survive during this difficult period, thanks to the great love of his wife (my great-great-grandmother). From the war, my grandfather brought not only awards that are still carefully kept in the family, but also two wounds, many injuries.

Too bad he didn't live to see today. I would love to hear his stories about the war. My interest in the yellowed photograph rallied our large family: we went to visit relatives to hear their memories, even recorded them for future children. After all, this is the memory of our entire family.

And now I know not only from books, films, teacher's stories that war is bad, scary, but also from the memories of my family. I wish all the peoples of the world that they do not have to go through such a time in their lives, although in different parts of the world it constantly bursts into the homes of civilians with shots and explosions!

Photo from a family album

A photo album is a real family heirloom, because it contains the memory of several generations of relatives and people dear to each other. Life itself is hidden in these memories, and therefore every picture here has a meaning.

Leafing through the pages of this valuable book, every time I learn something new about my loved ones. Looking at old, faded cards, my parents and grandparents share with me stories about their past.

Today I again picked up a family photo album. This time my attention was drawn to a photo of a very young grandfather and little dad. In the picture, they were dressed in summer clothes and were shown standing next to the lake. They both looked very pleased, and I wanted to know why.

First, I showed the photo to my grandfather. He looked at her for a long time, and then said that he used to often like to take dad with him on fishing trips. Early in the morning they prepared bait together, then sailed away in a boat, threw in tackle and returned a few hours later with a good catch.

Indeed, looking closer, I notice an old wooden boat in the distance in the picture. “Yes, yes, she is the best! - Grandpa nods. - My beauty. It rotted later, which is a pity ... ”But he still can’t remember the reason why he and dad smile so mysteriously.

Here the grandmother comes to the rescue: “You caught a huge pike that day! she says. Because they are so happy. And then what a rich ear it turned out! You hurt your hand while fishing with a fishing line, don’t you remember?

Grandpa looks at the photo again and this time notices the bandage on his right arm. He then proudly shows me a small scar on his wrist.

Now that the memories are restored, the picture that I hold in my hands is perceived in a completely different way. Soon parents return from the store, they also look at the old photo with interest, and after that we all sit down to dinner together. We also have fish soup for lunch today, and for some reason it is especially good on this day.

Photo from a family album.

Our family album has old photo made in the year one thousand nine hundred and fifty-nine. This unusual photo. My grandparents loved to look at her. But I don't remember what they said about her. When my mother picks up the album, she also looks at this photo for a long time and tells me about it. The photo shows the platform of the Moscow railway station. Passengers are boarding near the car. This is where my grandparents are. They are quite young. A seven-year-old boy is standing next to his grandfather. This is my mother's brother, Uncle Sasha. And a little to the side stands a four-year-old girl, in a flared coat and a knitted hat with lace. She looks curiously into the lens. That's my mom. My grandfather is a former military sailor. Served in the Far East as midshipman of the Pacific Fleet. There he met my grandmother and they got married. In 1959, grandfather and grandmother decided to move to their grandfather's homeland - to the Saratov region. There was a long way to go from Vladivostok to Moscow, then from Moscow to Saratov. And now the whole family is standing on the platform of the Moscow railway station. Now they must get into the car and go to Saratov. Grandpa is very serious. After all, it was he who decided to leave the naval service and take the whole family nine thousand kilometers. Grandma smiles. She needs to support her grandfather, her eyes seem to say: "Everything will be fine, we will survive everything." My seven-year-old uncle, like my grandfather, is serious. After all, he considers himself a man, and if dad is serious, then he must be the same. And only a four-year-old girl does not understand that this is not just a transfer to another train, but a sharp turn in the life of the whole family. A girl from a small port has never seen so many people, and now everything is interesting to her at the station. Probably, the photographer told her that a bird is about to fly out, and she looks into the lens with curiosity. My grandparents died almost on the same day and were buried in the same grave. And in the photo they are very young. Alive and well. Now they will sit in the car with my mother and uncle. The train will move, and there will be a long road, and there will be a whole life ahead. In the meantime, a little girl looks into the lens with curiosity and waits for a bird to fly out ...

How many yellow pictures in Russia ...

And the soul will not forget all the loved ones!

N. Rubtsov

One evening, leafing through one of the family albums, I noticed a small photograph yellowed from time to time. The serious eyes of adults and children looked at me from her. I thought that she was not here by accident. Who is imprinted on it? It seemed to me that an adult man with big, overworked hands was somewhat similar to my dad.

A little later it turned out: this photo is a real family heirloom. It was taken shortly before the start of the Great Patriotic War by a visiting photographer (the exact date could not be established). This yellowed photograph is very memorable for our family. It depicts my great-grandfather (on the far left) in the circle of his loved ones before being sent to the war, from which he did not return.

before the war he was a rural librarian, at the front he served as a nurse. He died in August 1942 near Leningrad. (far right) was mainly engaged in housework and raising children. She accompanied her husband to the front with a heavy heart: she was left alone with small children. In the arms of the great-grandmother is the daughter Vera, she is a year old “with a ponytail”. In the foreground is the little son Tolik. The oldest of the children, Timothy, is in the center of the photo. He is the main character of my story.

This is the grandfather. He was born and raised in the village of Rovensk, Kargatsky District, Novosibirsk Oblast. When did the Great Patriotic War, he was 13 years old, a little more than I am now. He remained the eldest in the family, studied in the sixth grade. Once he was summoned to a local office, offered to quit his studies and start working at a state farm: plowing, harrowing on horseback, hauling firewood. Timofey Naumovich agreed and began to work for an adult. The time was difficult, the grown bread was sent to the front. Hunger raged, the workers were given 220 grams of gray flour per day. Mostly they lived on what grows in the garden. Grandfather recalls how in the spring they were looking forward to the growth of nettles in order to cook cabbage soup from it.

It's hard for me to imagine that time. But after grandfather's stories, I realized how important it is not to get lost in a difficult situation. Children during the war grew up very quickly. My grandfather felt like a real man at the age of 15. In 1944, in the village where the family of Timofey Naumovich lived, a terrible epidemic took place - all the horses died out. But my grandfather was not at a loss: he raised a young cow so that it was possible to plow and carry goods on it, he specially made a cart for her.

Despite the horrors of wartime, hunger, cold, grandfather still graduated from a seven-year school. After the war, he moved to Novosibirsk, entered the school, worked for a long time at the Sibselmash plant. He has awards for conscientious work. Now Timofey Naumovich is 81 years old. The habit of work, love of life does not leave him. He works very hard on his personal plot, grows wonderful vegetables, berries and fruits. It is surprising that at this age, grandfather, despite the experience, remains a cheerful and active person. I really like to visit him, especially at the dacha.

Communication with him this time opened a small page of our family's biography for me - the history of a photo from a family album. Someday I will tell my children about it, and they will tell theirs. This is how the memory of the heart is passed on from generation to generation. I want to say about myself in the words of the poet Rubtsov: “And the soul will not forget everyone close to me!”
